Upgrade your Bystar with a Rofin Slab
Rofin-Sinar, Inc., a world leader in laser technology, supplies products and services to major machine tool builders such as Cincinnati, Finn Power, BLM and Sal- vagnini as well as major end users includ- ing Ford, General Motors, BMW, Honey- well, Motorola, Johnson and Johnson.
One of Rofin’s products, the Slab Laser, has gained great popularity because it fea- tures power levels up to 5000 watts and a design without consumable parts: blowers and glassware.
Interestingly, the Slab’s superior perform- ance and low operating costs prompted customer demand for its retrofit on their existing machines. As a result, Rofin started a Laser Upgrade Plan for used cut- ting machines. In the past 3 years, 60 up- grades have been completed on Cincin- nati, NTC, Balliu and Behrens machines.
Rofin has developed a BYSTAR Laser Upgrade Program that offers: a new Rofin Slab Laser, Koolant Kooler Chiller and other components.
Rofin-Sinar, Inc., a leader in laser technol- ogy, is promoting the DC040 4000 watt laser for cutting applications. It represents an excellent opportunity for BYSTAR us- ers that want to upgrade their equipment.
Diffusion-Cooled Slab Laser Technology is a trademark of Rofin’s commitment to advancing the field of lasers and their ap- plication. During the past 10 years, Rofin has developed and released 1000 watt through 8000 watts models for cutting, welding, cladding and other applications; over 4500 units are installed worldwide.
Numerous machine tool companies have integrated the Rofin Slab Laser Technol- ogy into their cutting equipment such as Cincinnati, Finn Power, Salvagnini, NTC and BLM. Remote Welding Machines have been developed using the superior beam quality of the Slab Laser such as products from OE, LasX Scan Weld.
The Diffusion-Cooled Slab Laser benefits are derived from its patented “no flow” design which virtually eliminates moving parts such as blower/turbines and vacuum pumps as well as consumable glassware and traditional optics.
The diagram displays the slab electrodes with a .060” gap where the laser gas is excited with RF energy. The laser beam is generated and intensified as the beam reflects back and forth between parabolic mirrors. The laser gas is cooled by chiller water running through internal cavities in the electrodes. The resultant laser beam has a superior quality of TEM00.
“The Rofin Slab uses a fraction of the la- ser gas of a traditional fast axial flow model, and maintenance or repair is mini- mal due to the simple design and few components.” explained Phillip Anthony, Macro Business Manager.
The BYSTAR Laser Upgrade is relatively simple and involves the following steps:
1. Pre-installation machine audit and cutting tests.
2. Shipment of Rofin Slab laser and con- trols, beam delivery components, Koolant Koolers chiller, electronic in- terface, purge gas filter system and related components.
3. 5 to 10 day project execution that in- cludes installation, production startup, cutting tests and training.
